In Steve's opinion, it was never too cold to grill, and so he was out on the lanai with his giant puffy coat and a pair of flip flops, flipping steak. (He was also grilling vegetables, but it was the steak he was actually excited about.)

"Danno!" he called back into the house, keeping his voice loud enough to be heard through the glass door, "two minutes!"

"You get a cold, I'm not takin' care of you!" Danny shouted back for maybe the fifth time.

He was under a blanket, on the couch, still feeling like he should be in a sunbeam somewhere. Stupid turning into a cat thing.

"I don't need you to take care of me," Steve yelled back. Sorry, Rey.

"Yes you do!" Danny shouted back. Lovingly.

"If you get angry and push something else off the coffee table, so help me," Steve teased, coming into the warmth of the apartment.

"I wouldn't!" Something was already on the ground.

Steve snorted. "Come get dinner."

"Fine." The fact that it wasn't fish was the only thing keeping him sane.

Steve would tease, but only to a point.

"Grab a few beers while I'm putting my coat away?" Steve suggested.

Danny didn't brush up against him even if the urge was there as he went to grab those beers.

"Maybe we get one of those outdoor heaters for you."

"Christmas is coming up," Steve agreed with a grin. "Or we could just head back to Honolulu and let me defrost."

"How long you thinkin'?" Because he'd enjoy a nice long amount of time with the kids.

"I hadn't really thought about it," Steve admitted. "What's your custody schedule?"

"She wants to take them to England to visit her side of the family Boxing Day through New Years, so I get them before," Danny said with a sigh.

"That's not a lot of time," Steve said, looking disappointed. "Maybe we go back next week and see them before?"

"I'll check with her now that I'm not a cat." A normal thing to say.

"I didn't tell her about that," Steve said.

[hatesparadise]

"I wasn't going to, but thank you for mentioning," Danny replied dryly.

"I didn't want you to worry," Steve said. "She wasn't calling for anything important, but I didn't want her blowing up your phone if you didn't answer."

Danny sighed and leaned into him for a moment. "Thank you."

"Always," Steve said, kissing the top of Danny's head.

"Maybe we can take them to one of the other islands?" Danny offered.

"They've been to Maui, right? Have they gone to Molokai? It doesn't seem like Stan's speed."

"I know Charlie hasn't at least," Danny replied. "It might be better than England then."

[grenadesandohana]

"Well, it's hard to compete with London," Steve said, "but Molokai is very laid back in a way that O'ahu isn't."

[hatesparadise]

"It'll be warmer at least."

Well, since Grace and Charlie had really only seen snow in New Jersey...
