The murderer had been arrested and sent for processing (after a shoot out because that was just how their lives went and this time Grover had been along. He and Danny bitching about it in two part harmony had been just the thing to not remotely improve Steve's mood this weekend), and Jerry had done his research and found out that mild-mannered Leonard Castellano was really an old defense attorney for the mafia.

And that his aunt had known all along, but hadn't told him because she thought he would freak out.

Which he hadn't. Much.

Shut up.

He was now with Danny at his house putting on their tuxes and waiting for Grover to come over so they could carpool to the wedding. Right now Steve was fussing with his bow tie and not looking at the brown-wrapped box Leonard had given to him that almost certainly contained evidence for some mob case that would definitely end up with him and Danny getting shot at again.

Going home was exhausting, sometimes.

"Stop that," Danny said, batting away Steve's hands to fix the bow tie for him.

"I'm capable of fixing a bow tie, Daniel," Steve grumbled, even as he held still.

"Lemme help," Danny ordered, straightening it for him.

Steve stood there, looking like a 6 foot tall annoyed second grader as Lou came through the door.

"Okay then," he said, blinking.

"He's fussing," Danny explained without looking away from Steve at all. Because of you thought he'd be embarrassed, you'd be wrong.

"I'm not fussing," Steve protested.

[hatesparadise]

"Uh huh."

Look, Lou didn't sign up for this. He signed up for a ride. "Should I leave you two alone here?"

"No, no, we're ready," Steve said, shooting another look at the damn package. "I'm never gonna know what's in Leonard Cassano's heart. But he loves my aunt and my aunt loves him, all right? That's got to be good enough for me." He looked over at Lou. "You look great."

"Very nice suit," Danny agreed, smoothing his own tie. "You can be Steve's escort here. I've got a prettier date to check on."

Grace. He meant Grace.

"You better mean Grace," Steve said, grinning and heading outside. "Deb asked me about Cath. Then it got weird."

[hatesparadise]

"Of course I mean Grace," Danny said with a little scoff. "How weird?"

[grenadesandohana]

"Something about how she didn't really have me pinged as the polyamorous type and then something about how it was in LA in the 1970s and then my mind kinda went blank."

Why Deb, why.

"Poly--" Yeah, there went Danny's brain too.

Lou sighed loudly behind them both. "Can we keep moving or am I going to have to listen to all your relationship drama?"

"I am begging you to keep moving," Steve said.

"Grace does not hear a word of that," Danny warned him, going to collect her like she could be a shield against the insinuations from Aunt Deb. Who had been his favorite of Steve's parent figures before now.

"She could've been messing with me, too," Steve said. "Aunt Deb's always got that twinkle, you know?"

[hatesparadise]

"Mary certainly learned it from somewhere," Danny replied.

[grenadesandohana]

"Oh, she was born like that," Steve said, laughing as Lou drove them towards the hotel.

While Grace was glued to her phone and treating their bickering like it was just a normal thing. Because it was.

"And if I ask her about it, will she have a glowing response about how you've been since birth?" he teased.

"Of course not," Steve said. "Same if I asked Stella about you."

"Oh, is that where you're going with this?" Of course it was.

[grenadesandohana]

Steve grinned. "Of course it is."

Lou grumbled from the front, "I can drop both your asses out here on the side of the road and take Grace as my date."

[hatesparadise]

"Nuh-uh, Grace is my date, thanks," Danny said.

Even as Grace looked up and seemed a little thoughtful. "Can we get shave ice?"

"We're going to get cake," Steve pointed out.

[hatesparadise]

"My date can definitely get shave ice," Lou chimed in. Because he was cruel.

"Nope, not happening," Danny said, shaking his head.
