Steve had gotten up at 4:30, as usual, for his run and swim and was drying his hair with the towel he'd left by the lanai to find a dark-haired girl already lounging there, waiting for him.

"Grace?" he asked, squinting in the dawn gloom. "Does Danny know you're here?"

"Not Grace," she replied, making a face. "I'm Aoife, Dad."

"DANNY!" Steve called, eyes wide. "Um."

She huffed out a breath. "And you're normally the cool one."

"...Uh. Hi," Danny said slowly, stumbling into the kitchen with his hair an absolute mess.

"Meet, um, Evey," Steve said, gesturing to the kid.

That wasn't her name, but good try?

"Evey?" Danny ventured, looking at the kid and her Williams eyes there. "Nice to meet you."

[weeohana]

"Aoife," Aoife said with a little eyeroll. "It's not that hard."

[hatesparadise]

"Aoife," Danny corrected with some effort going into it. He pronounced it as well as he pronounced Hawaiian words, though. "Well. Would you like pancakes?"

Interrogation over pancakes, yes.

[weeohana]

"With bananas?" she asked eagerly.

[hatesparadise]

Danny immediately looked at Steve for that. "And chocolate chips," he agreed.

Steve was looking a little gobsmacked.

"Wanna tell us about yourself?" Danny asked, gently maneuvering Steve to the side as he grabbed ingredients.

[weeohana]

"Well," Aoife said, sitting in a chair with an amused glance at both of them, "I'm Aoife. I'm ten. I'm from 2028. I'm glad to see you two together, and I love Danno's pancakes."

She gave Steve a little look. "And pineapple juice. Do you have any?"

"Oh, someone here raised you poorly," Danny had to tease in a very dry tone, looking right at Steve.

[grenadesandohana]

"That someone was not me," Steve said, hip checking Danny to get to the fridge.

Hearing how far off she was sort of let Danny relax a little. Because Steve was still there. They were still together.

They had a kid.

"Get the coffee on," he said even as he knew Steve was getting the devil's juice for their kid.

For today, Steve was breaking out the pure kona.

"Yes sir," he teased as Aoife sighed dramatically. "I am going to staaaaaaaaaaaaarve."

She wasn't.

"I'm goin', I'm goin'," Danny said, waving her off. He was in much too good a mood. "You can have some fruit if you're dying that bad, kid."

[weeohana]

"Or I could check the chocolate chips and make sure they haven't gone bad?"

[hatesparadise]

"Slice some bananas and I'll consider it." Trying to test who was the softie at this point in the timeline, huh? How Steve of her.

[weeohana]

Gotta test the terrain, Danno!

"Is Dad going to steal the ends and pretend it's because they don't fit in pancakes as well?" she asked.

[hatesparadise]

"Probably," Danny said. "But he won't if he gets to eat the tester pancakes."

He loved you, Steve. Really he did.

[grenadesandohana]

"I don't do any of these things," Steve blatantly lied.

[hatesparadise]

"Uh huh."

[weeohana]

"Why does he think that's ever going to work?" Aoife asked.

[hatesparadise]

"Hope springs eternal," Danny suggested.

[grenadesandohana]

"Just for that I'm taking a banana and a pancake," Steve said.

[hatesparadise]

"Babe," Danny said, giving Steve a look that was probably a near carbon copy of the one on Aoife's face. Because of course it was.
