In Steve's opinion, it was never too cold to grill, and so he was out on the lanai with his giant puffy coat and a pair of flip flops, flipping steak. (He was also grilling vegetables, but it was the steak he was actually excited about.)

"Danno!" he called back into the house, keeping his voice loud enough to be heard through the glass door, "two minutes!"

Steve beamed at him. "I can work with that!"

"I just screwed myself didn't I?" Oh, Danny. You set yourself up there.

"Well, I was hoping to help in that part--"

Danny sighed dramatically and rolled his eyes. "Why do I even try?"

Because he loooooved Steve.

"Because you are a wise and patient man," Steve said wheedled.

"You're buttering me up, but I'll allow it."

"Maybe I just like being nice to you sometimes," Steve said, kissing his nose.

"Oh, is that so?" Danny asked, sighing to enjoy the moment.

"Been nice to you all night," Steve added.

"You have," Danny replied with a long sigh, closing his eyes and putting his free hand on Steve's chest. "You've been sweet."

"We both needed it," Steve said.

Danny let out a long breat. "We really really did."

Steve leaned in for a soft, slow kiss.

"It's stupid how much I missed you, babe," Danny murmured.

Steve huffed out a little laugh. "Yeah," he agreed.

Danny let out a little sigh, kissing him and trying to ignore thar whole 'what if he went back to active duty' anxiety spiral.

Steve rested his hand on the small of Danny's back, then pulled him in closer.

Danny shuffled in immediately, drink kind of forgotten for more of this cuddling thing. Shocking, so shocking.

Sorry, little kid's expensive painting, you'll have to wait until next time! Steve pulled Danny all the way into his lap. "Better," he said with a pleased little smile.

"You're smug," Danny murmured into Steve's neck.

"I'm anticipating," Steve said.

"Is there a difference?" Danny had to ask.

[grenadesandohana]

"One's less smug," Steve told him helpfully.

Danny bit him on the shoulder, through the fabric of his shirt for that. "Putz."

"You asked," Steve said, grinning.
