Nahele's friend had overdosed on fentanyl-laced crystal meth, making him the 11th victim of the same drug cocktail in the last two weeks.

Steve had promised Nahele he'd never let anyone hurt him, and that had been a promise he'd also made to the entire state when he'd put on the badge. Five-O had chased down a few leads yesterday and O'ahu was small enough for him to realize pretty quickly that the drugs had to be being brought onto the island. (They knew most of the big players and none of them were making product like this.)

And so now Steve was working on the engine of a small airplane, the top part of the flight suit tied around his waist to expose his undershirt because it was hot as hell, waiting for the contact to...well, make contact.

"I'm in control," Steve said. "I promise."

CBS, you've got some shit to figure out!

"Okay," Danny said, letting out a breath. "Okay."

"You don't believe me?" Steve asked.

Danny gave him a little shove. "I worry. I'm allowed to worry. This is a case that hit home for the both of us."

Steve hip checked him in reply. "I'm not sorry about breaking that guy's arm," he said quietly.

"I wanna be professional about this stuff even with us being... engaged. And I don't think I know the limits sometimes," he admitted.

Steve nodded, listening intently. "This op is going to work," he said, trying to be comforting.

"It's going to work," Danny agreed, still needing Steve to be the one with the confidence there for him.

"And we'll stop these drugs from getting onto Oahu and make things safer for Nahele and Grace," Steve promised.

Danny let out another sigh and nodded. "C'mon. Let's get out of here so I don't feel weird about kissin' you."

Steve wiped his hands on a nearby rag and nodded. "We'll take the long way home, just in case."

"Good idea. Have Jerry check in on things all this week too."

"And if it looks like the cover's blown, we'll stay in Maryland come up with a plan B," Steve said.

"Deal," he said with a nod. This was a plan he liked now.

"But for now, let's check in on Nahele," Steve said.

"Pick him up something from Rainbow?" Since it was sort of the least they could do there.

[grenadesandohana]

"Definitely," Steve said. "I'll deal if he's at Kamekona's and I get shit for outside food."

Danny snorted and nodded at that. "It's for a good cause."

"Kamekona will understand," Steve said. "Well, partially. He'll want to know why Rainbow's better comfort food than garlic shrimp."

[hatesparadise]

"Because the kid gets the garlic shrimp all the time," Danny said, falling into this easily.

"Exactly," Steve said. "Loco moco is a hug in a Styrofoam box."
