MCA #0, Friday evening

Steve had been gritting his teeth and pushing through pain all week, nourished only by bland, terrible food, decaf coffee, and stubbornness.

(He was also fueled by his transplant anti-rejection pills, which he'd take for the rest of his life. He hated that.)

He wasn't running, but he was definitely walking up and down the steps of the island until his calves burned, and then did it for another half hour.

(His body had betrayed him after decades of work making it a finely oiled machine. He was punishing it just a little.)

And now he was back in the apartment, looking for something interesting to eat. There was nothing interesting to eat, but he was looking anyway.

Yeah, it was good, but... they were not used to eating a lot in one sitting anymore.

Danny let out a sigh that was more associated with a large pile of garlic shrimp and rice.

At least it wasn't the sound when Kamekona tried to make shrimp shave ice?

"You okay?" Steve checked.

"More full than I thought," Danny said, giving his half finished second slice a look of longing.

"It'll reheat, too," Steve said with a small smile.

"It will," Danny agreed, dropping it into the pizza box with a deeply unpleasant burp. "Excuse me. Jesus."

"You've never been sexier," Steve deadpanned.

"Welcome to marriage," Danny replied dryly. "Consider it a sign of comfort."

"I'm definitely thinking something," Steve admitted.

Danny gave him a little punch to the arm. "Oh, like you've never done that before."

"I can teach you to belch the military alphabet," Steve said.

"Oh, is that how you're wooing me?" Danny asked, finding his medication to take for the evening.

"Would that work?" Steve asked, grabbing his handful of pills, too.

"Nah, might need more," he said, making a face as he swallowed.

"I can also show you my knot tying," Steve said.

Danny paused to give him an amused look at that. "Here I thought it was just my tie you wanna 'practice your knots on' with me."

"I've got layers," Steve said, making a small face as the cheese hit his stomach.

Yeah, mistakes were made.

"Go lay down?" And groan a lot.

"Yeah," Steve said, wincing as he stood up. Stupid body. "We can watch a movie."

"Deal," Danny said, pushing himself up with a groan to put the pizza box in the fridge.

"Dibs on the bathroom," Steve said, which was very married of him.

[hatesparadise]

"Yours," Danny said, just wanting to lay in bed and not move until his stomach felt better.

[grenadesandohana]

"Pick something out," Steve said.

They'd be asleep in ten minutes.

"Yeah, yeah," Danny muttered, carefully flopping onto the bed and grabbing the remote to put on whatever movie he saw first.

Even odds for a rom-com halfway through or a superhero movie with ads every ten minutes!

Steve eventually came back into, removing his shirt with a groan as he got into bed.

Both great options!

Danny reached over the grab Steve's hand because moving onto his side still hurt like a bitch. So this was as close to the normal cuddling as they could get.
