Nahele's friend had overdosed on fentanyl-laced crystal meth, making him the 11th victim of the same drug cocktail in the last two weeks.

Steve had promised Nahele he'd never let anyone hurt him, and that had been a promise he'd also made to the entire state when he'd put on the badge. Five-O had chased down a few leads yesterday and O'ahu was small enough for him to realize pretty quickly that the drugs had to be being brought onto the island. (They knew most of the big players and none of them were making product like this.)

And so now Steve was working on the engine of a small airplane, the top part of the flight suit tied around his waist to expose his undershirt because it was hot as hell, waiting for the contact to...well, make contact.

"Thanks, Jerry," Steve said dryly. "Those backgrounds are solid, right?"

"As long as he doesn't dig too deep," Jerry assured them. Then ruined it with, "I think."

"He thinks," Danny replied.

"I have faith in you, Jerry," Steve said loyally.

"Thanks, McGruff," Jerry said, sounding touched before the call disconnected.

"He's kidding, right?" Right, Steven?

"I'm sure he's just being paranoid," Steve said. "It's Jerry. That's his default."

"Better be," Danny grumbled. "When is this flight supposed to be?"

Neal looked annoyed by this entire set up, mostly because this was possibly the most dangerous thing for him. "Next shipment is set for a week from now."

"And he'll call us?" Steve asked.

You know, him and his mechanic.

"If he doesn't find out you're cops and kill both me and you two," Neal said.

Danny made a face. "I'll take that."

"If we had a dollar for every person who'd tried unsuccessfully to kill us, we'd have a pretty good chunk of money," Steve said. "Bye, Neal."

Danny let out an annoyed sigh as their contact left to hopefully not go to ground in fear of getting caught out by both sides. "You think this'll work?"

Steve's jaw clenched. "If we can catch them in the act, it's a lot easier than trying to track down the shipment after it lands."

And there was another one of those sighs, but Danny nodded in agreement. "Here's hoping then."

"At least I'm taking backup?" Steve offered.

"Damn right you are," Danny said with a pointed look.

"Though I should probably show you how to be a better mechanic," Steve teased.

Danny rolled his eyes and shoved him. "I better not actually need any of this."

"Of course you won't, but it doesn't hurt to know," Steve said.

"And this isn't some weird flirting thing, right?" Danny, don't tease him.

[grenadesandohana]

"It's only 15 percent weird flirting," Steve assured him.

"That guy also for sure thinks 'mechanic' is code for boyfriend," Danny informed him.

Steve snorted. "No, he didn't."

[hatesparadise]

"Babe."

Seriously.

[grenadesandohana]

"Huh," Steve said, pausing to really think about it. "I didn't mean it that way."

[hatesparadise]

"Yeah, yeah, I know," Danny said, reaching over to give him a tool he wasn't sure was even used here. "You're on a rampage on this one. And I get it, but I'm worried about you."

"Eleven dead in two weeks," Steve said. "They're messing with our island."
