The team had come by today to check on them today now that Steve was awake for more than five minutes at time.

He was awake. Awake and bored. Booooooooooooooored. Tired of staring at the ceiling, tired of staring at the wall, tired of eating applesauce and chicken broth, tired of feeling like his head was a balloon trying to drift away thanks to the cocktail of drugs he was on. Tired of the actual balloons, flowers, and cards (even from convicted felons, what the hell, Sang Min, Steve wouldn't send you a card if you'd been in a plane crash).

Steve was taking it out on Danny, who didn't deserve it and had justifiably shut the curtain between them. So now Steve was stuck watching this stupid soap opera he'd insisted he wanted to watch, definitely not falling asleep.

Everything about this situation was stupid and annoying.

"Are you ready to stop being a child about this?" Danny asked, looking over the card from his kids because it was nicer than dealing with all this right now.

"Well, I can hardly say no, can I?" Steve retorted.

"Hence why I said it," Danny said sweetly.

Surly silence from Steve's side of the curtain. "Fine."

"And if I open the curtain, are you gonna be a dick?" Danny asked.

Another long pause as Steve took a couple of deep breaths, trying to rein in his temper. "No," he finally said.

And that was when the curtain was pulled back again. "Look, we can go home in a few days."

"Thank God," Steve said.

[hatesparadise]

"Where you are still on rest orders," Danny added.

[grenadesandohana]

Steve huffed in annoyance. "We'll see."

"What part of nearly dying do you not understand here?" Oh yeah, that sure to sway him after mentioning it for the fiftieth time.

Steve rolled his eyes. "I'd almost forgotten in the twenty minutes since it's come up."

"Well you did!" The nurses had gotten to the point where they were just ignoring this room to avoid the bickering.

"And that's why I got--whatever that was from the governor," Steve said.

"Seriously?" He couldn't even remember the awards he got?

[grenadesandohana]

"I was stuck on trying to figure why Sang Min wrote," Steve admitted.

"Maybe he thought you near death experience would convince you to help him with early release," Danny suggested.

[grenadesandohana]

Steve snorted. "Not gonna happen."

Danny nodded, letting out a sigh as he looked at the soap opera. "Can we change this already?"

"But I really want to know if Jessica is going to ditch Dimitri at the altar," Steve said.

"...how do you know their names?"

Steve, he had concerns now.

Steve chuckled softly because rocking his head too much was still not a great idea. "I made them up."

"You're a putz," Danny said, settling back down. He'd really like if they were back at home right now, honestly. Where he could grab Steve's hand and pry whatever bug was up his butt out of him.

"Better than being a dick," Steve said. It was a little like an apology if you squinted.

[hatesparadise]

"Yeah. Yeah, I guess so." It was accepting an apology adjacent. "They tell you we can't drink for two months?"
