The team had come by today to check on them today now that Steve was awake for more than five minutes at time.

He was awake. Awake and bored. Booooooooooooooored. Tired of staring at the ceiling, tired of staring at the wall, tired of eating applesauce and chicken broth, tired of feeling like his head was a balloon trying to drift away thanks to the cocktail of drugs he was on. Tired of the actual balloons, flowers, and cards (even from convicted felons, what the hell, Sang Min, Steve wouldn't send you a card if you'd been in a plane crash).

Steve was taking it out on Danny, who didn't deserve it and had justifiably shut the curtain between them. So now Steve was stuck watching this stupid soap opera he'd insisted he wanted to watch, definitely not falling asleep.

Everything about this situation was stupid and annoying.

Steve, he had concerns now.

Steve chuckled softly because rocking his head too much was still not a great idea. "I made them up."

"You're a putz," Danny said, settling back down. He'd really like if they were back at home right now, honestly. Where he could grab Steve's hand and pry whatever bug was up his butt out of him.

"Better than being a dick," Steve said. It was a little like an apology if you squinted.

"Yeah. Yeah, I guess so." It was accepting an apology adjacent. "They tell you we can't drink for two months?"

"Yes," Steve said sulkily. "But I am allowed to get exercise!"

Not building jumping, Steven.

"Within reason," Danny shot back. "Unless you wanna end up back here."

"I'm on a cocktail of ten different drugs," Steve said. "I do not want to end up back here."

"Well, what you you have preferred? Rubbing some dirt on it and walking off?"

Yes. Exactly that, Daniel.

Steve gave him a look like that wasn't the worst idea he'd ever heard. So, yeah, that.

"I will smack you," Danny warned. He thought he'd be a freaking widower last week.

"You can't reach me," Steve said.

"I'll call a nurse to help me."

[grenadesandohana]

"They like me more," Steve said. "You can tell by how many balloons I have."

"Well, Charlie keeps takin' mine." But, yeah, Steve got more balloons. He made for the better story, after all.

"That's because he's little," Steve said, "and because he hasn't asked me for any of mine."

Steve assumed all of his wires made him pretty intimidating still.

It was because he'd been told about fifty times that he couldn't jump onto Steve's bed until he was more recovered.

"You can always offer one. Or ten."

"They'll all leave with us at the end of the week anyway, right?" Steve said. "Sang Min's card can get left behind."

"Yeah, yeah. And then we'll see how well you do on the stairs." Either his place here or Fandom. Both had some.

"I'll be great on the stairs," Steve said. "I can get down the hallway without having to stop now."

But not there and back. It was aggravating.

"Babe." Danny was fully aware of how sweaty and annoyed Steve was every time he came back from that.

Steve shot him a look. "I'll be fine."

[hatesparadise]

"I love you, but you need time here," Danny shot back.

"I've had a week," Steve said sulkily.

[hatesparadise]

"So? It's a lot to heal from," Danny replied. "And to keep healing from."
