Baltimore, Saturday afternoon [NFB]

Steve had been dragging Danny through the Baltimore Aquarium (look, sharks were awesome, it was just demonstrable fact) when his phone rang.

"McGarrett," he replied, frowning lightly, and then harder as his listened.

"Danno, we gotta go," he said, taking off towards the truck. "The fake feds've kidnapped Parrish's daughter."

"Stop, police!" Steve yelled, springing towards the back fence.

Yeah, he just knew those long, giraffe legs were good for it.

Danny raised his gun at patio guy. "Ah! Wouldn't suggest it."

Steve, meanwhile, had scrambled over the fence and had tackled the other guy by his ankles and dropped him into a patch of poison oak.

Well, hopefully Steve was prepared for all the ointment necessary after it.

"Hands behind your head," Danny ordered his guy. Who might have complied faster than before, having seen Steve just bodyslam his partner.

At least it wasn't a tetanus shot?

"You too," Steve said, pulling out his cuffs.

Danny rattled off the Miranda rights as he cuffed his guy, patting him down for the fake FBI badge and very real gun.

"Can't wait to hand you over to the feds."

"They love when people pretend to be them and then attempt to commit murder," Steve said helpfully. "Love it."

"It was all his idea!" Danny's guy immediately shouted. "I was just hired to help!"

Danny glanced over at Steve for how well that fact had worked.

Steve snorted. "We're not the ones you have to debase yourselves in front of," he said.

"Call your buddy," Danny said, chuckling quietly at how fast the guy flipped.

"Killjoy's gonna be so pissed to have missed this," Steve said, laughing as he pulled out his phone.

"Yeah, yeah," Danny said as Chin got back to him with the company. "Well, looks like we'll have plenty of evidence with that rental car. Company wasn't hard to lead back to the original victim."

"Not exactly the criminal masterminds they thought they were, huh," Steve said dryly as he waited for Killjoy to pick up. "Hey! We got some trash for you to pick up."

"Hey!" complained the guy Steve was now sitting on.

"No one cares," Steve told him.

"Any word on Parrish?" Danny asked.

Steve held up a finger, then relayed the question. His face turned somber and he shook his head.

Danny let out a sigh. "Well, there's another charge for you two then."

[grenadesandohana]

"Enjoy a lifetime of federal prison," Steve agreed.

"I'll get Chin to share what we figured out with the department." And maybe they could get out of here in a timely fashion.

"Thanks," Steve said. "It'll be nice to have this buttoned up."

He put his phone back in his pocket. "Killjoy's sending a squad car. Said about five minutes."

"You're writing your own report," Danny warned him.

Steve gave Danny big, sad eyes.

[hatesparadise]

"Don't even with that," Danny said, rolling his eyes as sirens sounded.

"With what?" Steve asked, still deploying the kicked puppy eyes.

[hatesparadise]

"That," Danny said, pointing at him. "You know what? Go meet the uniforms."

"And this time I have a shirt on," Steve said, like this was something to be commended in some way.
