MCA #0, Friday evening

Steve had been gritting his teeth and pushing through pain all week, nourished only by bland, terrible food, decaf coffee, and stubbornness.

(He was also fueled by his transplant anti-rejection pills, which he'd take for the rest of his life. He hated that.)

He wasn't running, but he was definitely walking up and down the steps of the island until his calves burned, and then did it for another half hour.

(His body had betrayed him after decades of work making it a finely oiled machine. He was punishing it just a little.)

And now he was back in the apartment, looking for something interesting to eat. There was nothing interesting to eat, but he was looking anyway.

Steve kissed him back. "Still here," he murmured.

"Sure as hell better be," Danny muttered.

"I'm sorry I scared you so badly."

[hatesparadise]

"I wanna grow old with you, you get it?" Danny said, cupping Steve's cheek in his hand.

Steve nodded, closing his eyes and leaning into Danny's fingers. "It was too close."

He had coma hallucinations of them being old men on the beach together!

"Much too close," Danny agreed. "You're usually so good about slipping out of harm's way and do not take that as permission to keep it up."

"I won't," Steve promised.

[hatesparadise]

"We're gonna lay down together and nap after we have pizza, you hear me?" Like old men. But ones who weren't alone in this.

"Best date night in weeks," Steve said.

And they were still around to have them.

Danny grinned, leaning in to kiss him again. "Love you, babe."

"I love you, too," Steve said.

Which was sort of an apology if you squinted.

And tilted your head to the side.

Danny kissed him again before wincing. "I cannot wait for these to be healed."

"Bet I could blow you if you stay still," Steve said.

Danny snorted, patting him on the shoulder. "I'm not explaining popped stitches because of bedroom activities to a doctor."

"I'd be careful," Steve said, knowing this wasn't actually going to happen.

"Pizza," Danny replied firmly. Then added, "I'd rather just hold onto you."

Which was sappy as hell, wasn't it

Steve gave him a lopsided smile. "Really?"

"Yeah, babe." He missed having Steve in bed with him so much.

Steve leaned in again only for the doorbell to ring. "Am I getting up or you?"

"You get it. I'll get the meds and water."

Multitasking.

Steve levered himself up from the sofa with a groan. "Can you get plates too?"

"And napkins," Danny groaned, also pushing himself up. "Christ, I hate this."

"Me too," Steve said, tottering a bit towards the door.

[hatesparadise]

"Don't drop anything!" Was that aimed at Steve or himself? Both. The answer was both.

Steve snorted. "No promises."
